Ghod, please no!
Okay, I'm over it - but yes, this IS big and Tillman better have someone other than Kerry Joseph or Steven Jyles in mind to replace. That, or we change the team name to Colts ...

Looks like the Ricky Ray trade is going ahead:

Couldn't agree more re your Jyles comment, I don't see him as a replacement; maybe a good back up?

Rumor also has it that the Esks may try to get Henry Burris, who wants out of Calgary.

I like Ricky Ray and all, but over the last few years, I've thought he has plateau'd as a QB, I'm ok with going for a fresh look at that position.

I would still rate Ray as one of the top 3 QB's in the league. They better be getting someone other than Jyles to fill the QB position. Don't like this trade at all unless there is a signing or follow-up trade.

Burris is NOT the guy we want to replace Ray.
He has won one Grey Cup in 2008, but he has been getting worse ever since. He was absolute garbage this year, and I think his career is almost done. |

Ricky Ray need to let go and get a better QB with strong arm , quick release while gets good reading. I believe it is time to get a good QB who can pass 10- 20 yards every time.

That was kind of "out of the blue". Not like we have any young QBs of note in development. I really figured Ray would be here until the end of his career.
With the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto next year, i guess Brailey and the Argos are looking to make some kind of impact in the GTA. |

Not crying over this.
Ray hasn't been much in recent yrs. This year the team was 6th in offense and first downs despite having some of the best weapons in the league for Ray to work with. Even with a 100K cut in pay Rays contract still represented negative value in a capped league. Not sure why we ever extended the contract really but I suspect to get some stock in trade. Theres sources saying a deal with Hamilton fell through last year as well but only because the Ray camp wanted to not be moved in exchange for an agreed reduction in salary. Ray was making 512K/yr as recently as the 2010 season. Thats a huge amount in a smallcap league. He'll have trouble finding recievers in Toronto. Unless he pays some to play there..

Ray threw for about 25 touchdowns and had 11 interceptions. Other than the QB in Montreal how many other QB's had better stats? He is going to be very hard, if not impossible, to replace. This was not a move that made the team better. This is about a GM with a huge ego that is putting his own stamp on this team. Time will tell if this was a smart move, I believe it wasn't.

Any QB is fortunate to have recievers that fight back to the ball and maintain positioning like that. The 25 TD tosses on their own is really not that impressive. If anything Ray has had difficulty converting in redzone. 6th in production is no illusion. A team with this many weapons should get more.

Not to mention, that Ray was getting very predictable. The defense knew that if they could collapse on the pocket, then there would be a good chance they'd come up with a sack. If no play is available from the pocket, he struggles to make most other plays.
Some of this did have to do with the O line at times, but it wasn't always their fault either. Is Jyles the right man for the job? Who knows, but I know I spent many games yelling at the TV because Ray got sacked...again |

Ray is the type of quarterback who would rather take the sack than throw a bad interception. Sacks suck, but turning over the ball is worse.
Supposing that Ray wasn't the best fit for the team, who is going to be our quarterback next year? Joseph is too old and he's no good. Jyles is garbage. Unless some unknown steps up and has a stellar season (highly unlikely), the Eskimos are going to do worse than Saskatchewan next year. |

I would much rather have a QB that can throw the ball then one with nervous feet who takes off like a scared rabbit. Jyles is not the answer. Ray is still in the top 15 percent of QB's in the league.

They just extended Joseph's contract so he may be the guy. Maybe Hamilton will trade Glen to the Eskimos. Both of those options are not a step up from Ray and they cannot go with Jyles.

Not good, we have no runningback, no quarterback, it's going to be a long season. The only thing to look forward to will be the new seats (if they even go in this year).

Hilman, Give Eskimos GM time to rebuilt the team especially offence but for the defence, no worries about it.

I have given them time, I am tired of them rarely making the playoffs which is tough to do when 3 teams make it out of 4. Now we have no running back and a horrible quarterback, it's going to be another long year of going to their games

Esks have traded punter-kicker Eric Wilbur to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for future considerations.

Those seats look nice.
Now all we need is a good quarterback, a good running back, and a good defensive coordinator, or the Eskimos will suck. |
