Default Lack of upkeep to the sports fields and neighbourhood parks

I'm sure I'm not the only one upset about this but the lack of grass cutting on our local fields and parks is really noticable this year. I went for a walk tonight along Ada Blvd and walked by their park at 66 street. The city has not been out to cut it yet and it looks like hell. The sportsfield in my neighbourhood is a sea of dandelion stems that looks terrible. Again, no one has been out to cut it yet this year.

The city has got to start and do a much better job of providing services. Hard to be proud of a city that puts so little importance on appearance.

I presume they are trying as hard as everybody else in their departments, companies and dealies. It's the same reason why the potholes aren't being filled up as quickly as we want. We simply don't have the employees to do that task.

^^ This is soon going to be in Kerry Diotte column in the near future. I bet it's Mandel and Councils fault too...

^ Now there you go giving Kerry ideas...

^^ I agree there has been a total lack of basic grass cutting--providing services and you are right it is hard to be proud of the city when they do not seem to care.

Rural Redneck alert....

Gee, for our ball diamonds and other amenities back in little ol' Genesee, we maintained the fields, the outdoor rink, etc. Heck, it was fun to pull the farmer-rigged shale harrow (aka chain link fence piece weighted with welded steel pieces - YEE HAW) around with the trike - when they were still legal...

...and Genesee had one of the best ball diamonds around for playing surfaces.

Strange that we can't get some old retired guy to do some of this. The same would go for our boulevards and the like. I know there is this liability bit, but are we that far removed from our community roots that we cannot think outside our "let the city do it, that is why I pay taxes" bit, and then whine whine whine when the taxes go up to pay for said service?

Default Castledowns is Immaculate

There must be prominent city officials living in Castledowns, because not only do we have paved roads with no gaping holes, we have cut grass in the lush green parks!

If only we can re-open 142 Avenue, the world and the universe will unfold as it should!

I certainly do not want to give Kerry any more ideas and I do see the big picture when it comes to the importance of the "bigger things" (ie. the Art Gallery, Downtown Arena etc...) but we can do a much better job with the little things. Spring sweeping should have been finished several weeks ago on our major roads, the flower boxes should all be planted downtown and the lawns in our public parks (throughout the city) should be cut on a regular basis.

Often times it is the little things that count and make the difference.
