Visual art fans wanting to catch a performance or two at the 2007 Visualeyez Performance Art Festival will have to work a bit harder than usual to get their art viewing fix.
Visualeyez, which runs to May 27, is Canada's only annual performance art festival.
Unlike a traditional art gallery show, few of the 11 visiting performance artists participating in the Latitude 53 Gallery-sponsored festival are working out of the downtown gallery's 106th Street headquarters. Instead, these artists, hailing from across Canada, are choosing to create their unorthodox artistic projects in a variety of locations around Edmonton, many working outdoors.
For example, Irene Loughlin's performance sees her venturing outside to shoot a customized pellet gun to deconstruct issues of domestic violence, while Nicole Fournier's performance is designed to unfold in a parking lot a block south of the gallery.
Visual arts reviewer Gilbert Bouchard will have a full report in Wednesday's paper.
