EDMONTON - In a "once-in-a-lifetime" deal, the city has bought 70 hectares of river valley land and plans to turn it into a major new park.

The $7-million purchase, from developers Centennial Valley Properties Inc., of land across the North Saskatchewan River from Terwillegar Park ends more than five years of talks aimed at bridging a major gap in the city's ribbon-of-green trail system.

"It would have been very difficult to do without this land, if not impossible. We would have had to go out of the river valley," parks planning director Rob Marchak said Friday.

very pleased to see this finally get secured! Huge area smack dab in the middle of the SW of the city and great opportunity to make terwillegar and this a huge draw for outdoor lovers.
