The aerial sketch of downtown in another thread reminded me of some pretty cool hand-drawn city maps from a company called Unique Media. The level of detail is really amazing and they seem to be more than just maps, if not works of art. On the back of each map is a detailed list of attractions and things to do. They have maps for Toronto and Vancouver, and I think having one for Edmonton would be nice, especially for tourists. That way, anyone who complains about there not being anything to do in Edmonton can buy one of these maps to shut themselves up! :D

They'd also make great souvenirs. Tourists bringing them back home could start getting other people interested in Edmonton as a tourist destination.

Website from a quick search on Google, if you wanna see a sample of their artwork: http://www.wall-maps.com/UniqueMedia.htm

Yes, those are awesome. I bought some when I was living in Toronto. I have Toronto, Las Vegas, USA, Manhattan, L.A. and Vancouver.

At that time (approximately 10 years ago) I phoned and asked if they would make one for Edmonton. The answer was no, because the centre is too small for them. I guess they figure they wouldn't get enough sales to make it worthwhile for them.

z point graphics of whistler has had a pretty neat bc/alberta rendering for some time - http://www.panorama-map.com/panoramamap/index.html . unfortunately, they don't have the jasper- edmonton stretch done yet (although canmore to calgary is :( ). a bit of "lobbying" demand from edmonton might be more effective with a canadian as opposed to an american firm although i have not had contact with them for many years.
