If a business has a BBB logo on their advertising, business cards, promotional material or website; does it mean they’re a BBB® Accredited Business? Usually it’s true, however some dishonest businesses or bogus websites may use our trust marks to lure unsuspecting consumers.

At the bottom of our home page (www.edmonton.bbb.org (http://www.edmonton.bbb.org/)) you can click on Trademarks (http://edmonton.bbb.org/SitePage.aspx?id=3d14d34f-3199-469f-99f6-f298fddcb143), which will take you to information about the trademarks of BBB, as well as a list of known violating companies who use our logos and are NOT accredited. The list is of companies that do not have our permission to use our marks and have refused to comply with repeated requests to stop using them. Please note that this list does not include every company misusing or infringing on our marks, but only those we have contacted many times about their misuse or infringement.

Of interest, is that none of the offending business listed are in the service area (http://edmonton.bbb.org/service-area/) of BBB of Central and Northern Alberta!

How can you check to see if a business is accredited by BBB of Central and Northern Alberta?

Can the CBBB not take legal action against these companies?

Thanks for your question!

If someone falsely claims BBB accreditation we contact them and ask them to take it down. For all logo abuse, we also have a team of lawyers that contact them. If we can’t contact them, such as if they are scammers, we will often contact the web site’s hosting service.
