January is a time for New Year’s resolutions. Why not commit to trying something new and exciting downtown this winter? There has never been more happening in our vibrant City core and it’s time to engage yourself in the mix of offerings. From arts to dining and everything in between, downtown is an urban sophisticate’s dream.

1. This year’s Family Festival is all about fantasy and magic! Check our website to see the extensive list of participating venues offering free family oriented fun! Family Day is February 19th.

2. Due to popular demand, the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Art Bar will re-open January 11th. It’s the perfect place for an after work cocktail.

3. The dress, the caterer, the photographer and florist! With so much involved in planning the perfect wedding you don’t want to miss the Bridal Fair at the Shaw Conference Centre January 7th from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.

4. Ballet has provided us with some of the most treasured melodies and moods in all of music. The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra celebrates these classics in Balletomania, January 25th at 8 pm.

5. Join Edmonton Opera for a Sunday brunch like no other with the Edmonton Opera Brunch series featuring the Barber of Seville, January 21 at 11 am. Held in the elegant Alberta Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, you'll begin with a delectable feast followed by performances by the principal artists of each opera and invited guests.

6. Challenge your thinking self at the Philosopher’s Café at the Stanley A. Milner Library. The Cafés offer you the opportunity to hear a University of Alberta scholar speak on significant topics. Saturday’s at 2pm – January 13th, 27th and February 10th.

7. Margaret Atwood is coming to Edmonton January 25th at City Centre Campus – MacEwan College. Don’t miss An Evening with Atwood starting at 7:30 pm. Bring your book club!

8. Image Theatre presents two small plays about love and death at Red Strap Market. Running from January 25th to February 3rd, make it a theatre date with your significant other and get into the Valentine’s Day spirit.
