Short notice on this, but since the weather is supposed to be gorgeous tomorrow we'll be out taking pictures of the campus to help model it in 3d for Google Earth.

Link to the Facebook Event (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=112708962088285&index=1):
Saturday the 17th
11:00AM
Outside Dentistry/Pharmacy

There was a writeup about the project in the Journal last weekend (http://www.edmontonjournal.com/technology/Edmonton+wizard+charts+downtown+Google+Earth/2786195/story.html).

You can see the progress here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=txpH6ImMaQzn-sQjhd8qX7w&output=html) (there's still lots to go, although the first few models are already showing up in Googleearth)

I've put together some tips on the types of pictures that work best for this:

http://www.slideshare.net/uofa3d/photography-tips-for-3d-models

And for some information on how this works, the photos are going to be photoshopped into model textures, so you would need to be okay with their use in derivative works. The finished models all end up in Google's 3d Warehouse and attribution for the photographers can be included in the metadata. The UofA has set up an FTP site where we would like to host the photos centrally, but if you would prefer to keep them accessible on Flickr that could work too.

If anyone's interested in helping out drop me a message, or just drop by. I'll be around D/P. Rutherford, St. Stephens, Old Arts...

For more information check out the UofA3d Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/UofA3d/431781308848), or follow UofA3d on twitter (http://twitter.com/uofa3d).

We'll probably try to do one more of these before the trees are full of leaves.
